A custom fireplace screen is sized to your opening and styled to match your room, which off-the-shelf screens rarely do. Fabco Fabrications builds custom metal fireplace screens for homes in Rome, Floyd County and Northwest Georgia, from our shop in Cave Spring, just southwest of Rome.
Why go custom
Fireplace openings come in every size and shape: tall arched masonry openings, wide stone hearths, see-through fireplaces and old coal-burning fireplaces. A screen built to the opening covers it properly, sits flat on the hearth or mounts to the surround, and doesn’t leave gaps for sparks.
Styles
- Flat and folding screens in three or four panels that stand on the hearth.
- Arched screens shaped to an arched opening.
- Screens with doors so you can tend the fire without moving the screen.
- Decorative screens with scrollwork, monograms or a design that repeats your stair railing or gate.
Materials
Screens are usually built with a steel or iron frame and fine spark mesh, and can be accented with brass or bronze. We work in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, brass and bronze, so the hardware can match your andirons, lighting or other ironwork in the house.
Safety notes
A screen keeps sparks and rolling logs on the hearth, but it doesn’t replace a properly built and maintained fireplace and chimney. Keep the screen in place whenever the fire is burning. For gas inserts, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on screens and clearances.
How it works
- Measure the opening and hearth (send us measurements and photos, or we can come look).
- Choose the style, panels and finish.
- The screen is built in our Cave Spring shop.
- Delivery and fitting.

Frequently asked questions
Can you build a screen for an arched or oversized opening?
That’s the main reason to have one made: the screen is built to your opening’s size and shape.
Can a screen have doors?
Yes. A screen can include doors so you can add wood without moving the whole screen.
What information do you need to quote a screen?
The width and height of the opening, the depth of the hearth, and a photo of the fireplace.
