Metal sculpture takes an artist’s eye and a fabricator’s skill. Fabco Fabrications builds one-off metal sculpture, decorative metalwork and public art for cities, churches, businesses, artists and homeowners in Rome, Floyd County and across Georgia, from our shop.

Public art in Rome
If you’ve walked the 500 block of Broad Street in downtown Rome, you’ve seen the Dancing Flower, dedicated to Mickie Dobbs of Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful. Its bronze plaque credits Jimmy Birdsong, Fabco’s owner, as fabricator, working from a concept by Blaine Williams and a design by Robert Noble. The project was made possible by the Rome Area Council for the Arts, the Downtown Development Authority, the City of Rome and many others. It’s a good example of how we work: an artist or committee brings the idea, and we turn it into a durable, installed piece of steel.
Our portfolio also includes the Special Olympics Georgia “Flame of Hope” sculpture on the Atlanta BeltLine.
What we make
Public and civic sculpture for downtowns, parks and campuses.
Religious pieces such as crosses, wall sculptures and memorial-garden features.
Logo and wall art: a company or school logo turned into a dimensional metal piece.
Functional art: sculptural bike racks, wall racks and decorative security doors.
Garden and home pieces made to order.
Working with artists and committees
Many sculptures start as a sketch, a model or a design from an artist. We help work out the scale, structure, material and mounting so the piece holds up outdoors, then fabricate and install it. We work in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, brass and bronze. Material choice affects weight, how the surface weathers, and the base or footing the piece needs.

Iron posts and arch framing the entrance to a downtown alley.
A tall polished stainless steel cross in a two-story atrium.
Penny-farthing bicycle sculpture outside a gift shop.
Painted metal clock tower logo mounted as wall art.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fabricate a sculpture from my design?
Yes. The Dancing Flower on Broad Street is an example: it was built from an artist’s concept and a designer’s drawings. We help work out structure and materials along the way.
What metal is best for outdoor sculpture?
It depends on the look and budget. Stainless steel and aluminum resist corrosion, bronze and brass weather to a classic patina, and painted or coated steel allows bold color.
Do you install large pieces?
Yes. Installation, including the base or footing a piece needs, is planned as part of the project.
