Interior Hand Rails & Balcony Railings in Rome, GA

Silver-finish iron railing with a Greek key pattern along an open upstairs hallway, a custom metal railing

Lofts, balconies, landings and open overlooks need a railing that keeps people safe without blocking the view of the room. Fabco Fabrications builds custom interior hand rails and balcony railings for homes, churches and commercial interiors in Rome, Floyd County and Northwest Georgia, from our shop.

What we build

  • Balcony and loft railings overlooking great rooms and foyers.
  • Landing and hallway guards along open edges at the top of a stair.
  • Radius (curved) railings that follow a curved balcony or landing edge.
  • Juliet balconies: a short, decorative railing across a tall window or interior opening.
  • Wall-mounted handrails in iron, steel or a metal-and-wood combination.

Design choices

The railing can be all metal or pair iron balusters and panels with a wood cap rail. Popular infill styles include plain or twisted balusters, scroll panels, geometric patterns, and horizontal bars for a modern look. We work with steel, aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, brass, bronze and wood, so a railing can match your stair railing, cabinet hardware or light fixtures.

Safety basics

Under the International Residential Code used in most of Georgia, any open edge more than 30 inches above the floor below generally needs a guard at least 36 inches high, with openings small enough that a 4-inch sphere can’t pass. Commercial spaces under the International Building Code usually need 42-inch guards. Climbable horizontal designs can raise questions in homes with small children, so talk that through before choosing a style. Your building inspector has the final word.

How it works

  1. On-site consultation and measuring of the openings, floor structure and anchoring points.
  2. Design and material selection.
  3. Fabrication in our Cave Spring shop, including bending for curved sections.
  4. Installation and anchoring on site.
