Automatic Gates & Gate Openers in Rome, GA

An automatic gate makes a driveway gate something you actually use every day instead of leaving it open. Fabco Fabrications builds driveway gates and installs gate openers (gate operators) for homes, farms and businesses in Rome, Floyd County and Northwest Georgia. Because we design and build the gate in our own shop in Cave Spring, just southwest of Rome, the gate and the opener are planned together from the start.

New automatic gate or adding an opener to an existing gate

New gate: the best results come when the gate is built for the operator. We size the frame, hinges and posts for the opener’s loads and leave room for wiring and mounting.

Existing gate: many gates can take an opener, but not all of them. The gate has to swing freely and level on good hinges, the posts must be solid, and the gate can’t be too heavy or too flexible for the operator. We’ll look at it on site and tell you honestly whether it’s a candidate or needs repair or replacement first.

Things that decide which opener is right

  • Swing or slide. Swing gates are the most common. A sliding gate can work where the drive slopes up behind the gate or there isn’t room for the leaves to swing.
  • Gate size and weight. Every operator is rated for a maximum gate length and weight.
  • Power. Whether there’s power at the gate, or it needs to be run there.
  • How people get in. Remotes, keypads, a call box or phone entry, and how deliveries and emergency vehicles will get through.
  • Safety. Residential and commercial gate operators are built to the UL 325 safety standard, which calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or sensing edges. Plan these in, especially where children, pets or pedestrians are around the gate.

How the project runs

  1. On-site consultation to look at the opening, grade, power and traffic.
  2. Gate and operator design worked out together.
  3. Gate fabricated in our Cave Spring shop.
  4. Gate hung, operator installed and the gate adjusted on site.

Frequently asked questions

Can you automate the gate I already have?

Often, yes. It depends on the gate’s weight, how freely and levelly it swings, the hinges and the posts. We’ll inspect it first. Sometimes a repair or a stronger post is all it needs.

Which is better, a swing gate or a sliding gate?

Swing gates suit most driveways and look traditional. Sliding gates are useful when the driveway rises behind the gate, space is tight, or the opening is very wide. The site usually decides.

What happens when the power goes out?

Operators generally have a manual release so the gate can be opened by hand, and some can be fitted with battery backup. Ask about it when we plan your system.

Do you service gate openers you didn’t install?

Call us and describe the gate and the problem. We can tell you whether it’s something we can help with.
